What Went Right and What Went Wrong

TURN AT THE TURN PIKE
Over the past three months of off-campus teaching, my educational belief has changed and strengthened. Honestly, my philosophy in teaching is that I want to become a teacher not because I love it, but because of the benefits from the government and maybe because of the increasing salary. I don’t even dream to become a teacher in the first place. Now, I must say “Everything turned out to be unexpectedly different!” when I had my practice teaching at the school which they called Justo V. Imperial High School (Baao National High School Annex Campus).
During my first day of off-campus teaching, I remembered the first day of my college journey. I felt like I am lost in a different world. I don’t know where to go and even asking myself “Will I enjoy spending my three months of off campus teaching in this school? Will the teachers and the students will like me?” such questions that continuously running in my mind during my first few days. But, Guess what? It was so ironic because the exact opposite of what I’m thinking during my first few days happened! Yes, I am very fortunate when I meet my cooperating teacher Mrs. Norvi Antones,I often felt as if I did not just have a cooperating teacher but a friend and a loving mother has the willingness to provide advice and support me in any way possible and helped me to get the most out of my students teaching experience possible. I also adapted some styles of my cooperating teacher like classroom management which definitely evolved. I want to develop my classroom management style for me to become more productive and efficient teacher in the near future.
Something I did not expect from my student teaching experience was my first encounter with my students. In the first few days, I was focusing on building connections with my students, as a result, who would have thought that in such few days, I am already mingling with my students as if I am their adviser. They made me so special that I can’t help myself but freshen up the glimpse of happiness with my students. Whenever the day of goodbye was getting nearer, I felt sad because I want to stay and teach for a bit longer. They serve as my inspiration in doing my lesson plan and instructional materials every night. They are the reason why I wake up early in the morning just to go to school. Everything turned out to be unexpectedly different because of these naughty students who are responsible of changing my point of view in teaching.
Lastly, I have witnessed how the teachers of this school manifested their care towards each and every student in this school. They work untiringly to reach all the learners, even spending their time not just in brainstorming but also outside the class, with the students. This is something that I admired about the faculty in this school.
I feel blessed to have been paired with the indefatigable teachers in this school. Therefore I can say I had a privilege to teach a wonderful group of 7th graders over the past three months. As I wrap–up student teaching experience, I am shocked at how fast this time went, thrilled to be this much closer to being a real teacher someday.
